A tour guide system is a portable wireless communication system that allows a person to speak to a group of people. A system consists of a transmitter with a microphone for the presenter, receivers with headphones for the audience, and (often) a charger storage case.
Tour guide systems are used for factory/plant tours, open air tours, museum visits and anywhere else it is difficult for a person to speak to a group whether due to noise or distance. These versatile systems are also used for simultaneous interpretation, silent conferences, audio description, hearing support and command training.
Before the tour
Familiarise yourself with the equipment.
Check how many people are attending the tour and make sure you have sufficient receivers charged ready and set on the same channel as your transmitter.
If more than one tour is taking place within the same environment, check the transmitters are set on different channels.
Tip: A quick and easy way to check if any other transmitters are currently being used on a specific channel (frequency) is to switch a receiver on first and see if it is receiving a signal. This can be checked by either connecting an earphone and listening for any interference, or visually by seeing if the blue signal indicator light on the top of the receiver is illuminated. If you can hear interference or the light is on, simply change frequency (by selecting a different channel) and repeat the above.

Getting started
Plug your microphone into the transmitter and switch it on.
Distribute the receivers to the group. As you issue a receiver to each member of the group, switch it on for them, supply the earphone (or headphones), and explain where the volume control is located.
Tip: To give your guests something to listen to while you are getting ready (and stop them from removing their headphones and chatting!) you can play some music/pre-recorded commentary into the system. This can be done by connecting a media player or smartphone to the transmitter’s aux-in socket. This also gives the group confidence that the system is working. Always remember to mute your microphone when you do this, so you are not broadcasting your comments at the same time!
Before the tour starts you should carry out a brief speech test to ensure each group member can hear you clearly.
After the tour
At the end of the tour make sure all the receivers have been returned and are switched off to preserve the battery life for the next tour.
The transmitter and receivers should all be charged at the end of the day ready for the next event.
