Fire and Rescue Service use Tourtalk for training exercises

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service have purchased Tourtalk command training systems.

They use the systems to enable observers to hear a trainee during exercises.

Fire service using command training system

The trainee is issued with a Tourtalk transmitter and lapel microphone. They are told to describe what they are doing whilst conducting their allocated task.

The observers are each issued with a lightweight receiver and single earphone to hear the trainee’s voice. As the single earphone only covers one ear, the other ear is still exposed to enable the observers to discuss the event and hear any potential hazards such as reversing vehicles.

With a range of up to 120m the observers can monitor the trainee from low level even when the trainee is on a ladder or training tower.
